Hi, my name is Heather and I’m fundraising to help my mom with her medical bills. She was recently diagnosed with a rare form of Melanoma in her breast. After receiving several scans, labs and several doctors appointments she found out that her oncologist and Texas oncology were not covered by her insurance. She had to pay out of pocket for all of the medical expenses previously incurred and her treatment plan was placed on hold. She was not able to begin her immunotherapy right away like she needed to. Because of this her mass continued to grow causing her excruciating pain that no pain medication could help. She was able to switch insurance companies through the market place and found an insurance plan that covered Texas Oncology, her oncologist and the surgeon that will soon do her mastectomy however she had to wait a month before the new plan was effective. During this time her mass continued to increase in size making her pain even worse. The first day her new insurance plan went into effect her oncologist submitted the request for immunotherapy and after a little over a week it was finally approved. She began her treatment with high hopes that it would begin to reduce the size of the mass and alleviate some of the pain that she is in. Unfortunately the mass continued to grow and the pain intensified. After two treatments 3 weeks apart her oncologist sent the surgeon a photo of her mass. He immediately scheduled her for a consultation where he did a sonogram and found another mass in her breast. He scheduled her for a mastectomy the following Monday. This lifted my moms spirits and gave her hope that the pain that she has been in 24/7 for the past few months would finally subside. Then she received a phone call on the Friday morning before her surgery that was scheduled for the following Monday from the hospital that her surgery is supposed to take place. They called to inform her that her insurance doesn’t cover their facility and that she will have to pay out of pocket. The facility will cost her around $18,000 on top of the other expenses that she has already incurred. My mom doesn’t have that kind of money and neither do I. She was able to get approved for a Care Credit account that will cover the deposit for the facility but she will struggle with making the payments.
