Help My Mother Beat Stage 4 Colon Cancer
In 2017, our world was turned upside down when my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer. She bravely underwent surgery followed by six months of grueling chemotherapy as a precautionary measure.
For four years, we celebrated clean scans and hoped for the best.
However, in May of 2022, our worst fears were realized. The cancer had spread to her lungs, advancing to stage 4, and doctors delivered the devastating news: it was terminal. She was given approximately five years to live and informed that she would require lifelong chemotherapy treatments every other week.
Chemotherapy is a brutal battle, one that my mother faces with unwavering strength. Yet, the toll it takes on her body is immense.
The frequency and dosage of her treatments have led to severe side effects, including a hospitalization for four days due to complications.
Feeling like just another patient on a conveyor belt, she made the courageous decision to transfer her treatment to Moffitt in Tampa. While this change promises better care and support, it comes with its own challenges. Living in Fort Myers, the biweekly drives to Tampa for treatment are both grueling and financially burdensome.
