Let's Help with Kelley's Breast Cancer Recovery
Donation protected
Our dear friend Kelley was diagnosed with breast cancer this past July 2019. It was a very emotional time for her to say the least.
She went in for a regular check-up, and her doctor found 2 tumors in her right breast. Both tumors were biopsied and confirmed to be Stage 1 ER positive, HER2 negative cancer. After consultation with her oncologist, she decided to have a lumpectomy combined with radiation. But after an MRI follow-up, it turned out that she had 2 additional tumors, for a total of 4 tumors in her right breast. This meant that a lumpectomy and radiation was not sufficient as a treatment. On August 21st, she had to have a full mastectomy of her right breast... the one thing she was fearing the most.
The surgery went as planned. What did not go as planned was the pathology report: her cancer was Stage 2. Three nodes were removed, 2 were clean, but 1 tested positive for a 1.9 mm metastasized tumor. While it was a small tumor, it had spread to a lymphnode. What this means is that she will have to continue receiving long-term hormone treatment to prevent cancer recurrence and monthly blood tests to monitor her condition and side effects. This is in addition to her second surgery scheduled for December 4 for reconstructive breast surgery.
Luckily Kelley's prognosis is good. She has access to good doctors and treatments because she has insurance. However, despite her insurance, the deductible and out-of-pocket costs have had a significant impact on Kelley's finances and emotional well-being.
Kelley has been a great friend to many. Although we can't make that damn cancer go away, we can help take some of the financial burden off her shoulders. One of the beautiful things about Kelley is that she wants to protect others from feeling burdened by her personal struggle. And that is why we started this GoFundMe page to help her out.
We love Kelley very much and hope that this page in some way can ease the financial strain that she is experiencing. We hope that you can help us achieve this goal. Thank you and Fuck Cancer!
