Hello, I am Kellen's cousin, Ciarra, writing on behalf of my aunt and uncle. Kellan Santiago White is 16 years old and is the oldest of Ian and Yaneth White's 4 children. He is an accomplished pianist—playing advanced music from Chopin, Beethoven and Mozart, as well as creating improvisations from Star Wars and other popular tunes. In his free time, Kellan enjoys wrestling, kayaking, hiking and staying active with his family. Kellan is a good example to his younger siblings

 

Kellan’s sophomore year was cut short in April because he’s been severely impacted by a rare and hard-to-diagnose autoimmune condition that has wrecked his brain. He was recently discharged after spending more than a month hospitalized in 4 different hospitals. Since late April he’s been in the ER, life-flighted, and in the ICU, until he was transferred to the Neuorosciences Unit at Children’s Health Dallas. He’s been undergoing treatments that we didn’t even know existed. Though he’s been discharged and has shown improvement, he has a long way to go until he’s 100%. It is still unknown what treatments he’ll require in the future.

The first hospital bills have been showing up and in total they are expected to be over $1M. Luckily, they are well-insured and will only have to pay a fraction of what is billed, but even the out-of-pocket max for out of network care is significant. In addition, there are alternative treatments available from doctors that utilize more dietary and natural medicines that the insurance won't cover. They are determined to do whatever it takes to get Kellan whole again and any support you can provide is greatly appreciated.
