Alexandra and Patrick were excited when they found out they were going to have a baby just one week before he began chemotherapy treatments for Hodgkin Lymphoma. There had been a good possibility he would have become sterile from the treatments and so it seemed they would be able to have a family after all. A few weeks later, Alexandra and Patrick were delighted to discover there wasn't one baby... but two! Eventually, they would also learn they were expecting a boy and a girl.
Despite the toll chemo was taking on Patrick he was able to look forward to being a Daddy and that gave him strength and something really wonderful to look forward to.
On the evening of Thursday, April 6th 2017, Alexandra went into preterm labor and their twins Hadley and Hayes were born at only twenty-three and a half weeks, via emergency c-section, and flown to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.
The Kelleher Family have a long road ahead and months of being in the neonatal intensive care unit. They're fortunate to have excellent health insurance which will keep the medical bills manageable. The difficulty will come with loss of income during Alexandra's recovery and time spent at the NICU bonding with Hadley and Hayes which will be critical to their social- emotional development and contribute to the overall well being of the entire family unit.
Any help with living expenses during this chapter in their lives would be so appreciated.
Thank you for reading the Kelleher's story!
