Support Kelci's Fight Against Keratoconus
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Kelci and I am 24 years old. In December of 2022, I was diagnosed with corneal hydrops in my left eye as a result of keratoconus. Keratoconus is a chronic condition that causes the cornea to bulge and protrude forward, taking on a cone shape. Hydrops is a rare complication of this condition where the cornea tears and fills with fluid. The resulting permanent scarring left over my cornea leaves me severely visually impaired and will require a corneal transplant down the line. In January 2025, I had Corneal Cross Linking surgery (CXL) done to prevent the progression of KC. While the surgery was successful, since then I have been out of work and unable to do many daily functions. The toll this has taken on my depression and anxiety has been immense.
Scleral lenses as my only option for corrective vision. Unfortunately my insurance, Aetna, is refusing to cover the expense, leaving me to pay $3200 out of pocket. The process of applying for government assistance has been tedious, unhelpful, and frustrating. I am hoping to raise funds to
cover the cost of my scleral lenses on top of months of past due medical expenses- specifically paying my psychiatrist so I can resume my mental health treatments.
As someone who is used to working and being independent, 2025 has been an emotional year. I appreciate anyone who can help out or share this around! Or ask you keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I go through this journey.
Have a great day!
