Kejon’s Fight for Justice
My name is Tanya Woods, and I am devastated by the recent events concerning my son Kejon Kessee. The pain and distress my family has endured has been unbearable to say the least.
On March 30, 2021, my son was wrongfully convicted of 2nd degree murder with a sentence of 40 years to life.
Kejon is 26 years old, and has been incarcerated for over 5 years. He has a beautiful five-year old daughter, whom he was only able to spend six months with prior to his incarceration. He loves God and doesn’t deserve to be convicted of this crime.
All his trials have taken place at Compton Municipal Court. He has had multiple trials with a biased judge who was hell bent on having him convicted.
History
FIRST TRIAL: Day of Trial Dismissed (My son should have been released because DA had not refiled) Judge allowed DA to file over the weekend)
SECOND TRIAL: Not guilty of 1st Degree Murder and 8/4 Verdict for 2nd Degree in his favor.
THIRD TRIAL: Verdict 6/6 2nd Degree Murder
FOURTH TRIAL: Verdict -All Guilty
It is apparent the judge assigned to this case is bias, which he has proven time & time again through his actions. Each trial the judge has taken away more and more from what my son’s attorney was able to do, say or present as evidence to the jury to prove his innocence. From the very beginning he has gone as far as saying he felt my son was guilty and that he would see this trial to the end. Which meant until he was convicted of this crime. This judge is not a trial judge but, was adamant about keeping this case in his courtroom. Not only did he treat my son as though he was already guilty, he treated me and my immediate family unfairly. We experienced harassment outside of the courtroom by police. Not to mention on many occasions inside the courtroom, by which we were escorted to and from the restroom in front of jurors to paint a negative picture and was also told what we could and could not say when taking the witness stand.
My son was brutally beaten by the Compton Police in 2013 and in turn won a lawsuit against them in 2015, because it was caught on video. Between 2013 to 2015, Kejon was pulled over more than 100x’s by Compton Police for no probable cause and was never detained or taken into custody.
LAWSUIT
There was never any evidence against my son, no gun, no gun residue, and no fingerprints. There was only 1 eyewitness, that actually saw the crime because it happened right in front of her residence. She repeatedly testified at each trial, the vehicle they said my son was driving was not the vehicle, but her testimony was completely disregarded! There were 2 other witnesses that testified against my son. The first guy lied because he was arrested and being threatened by the detective which came out in the end but that statement was also disregarded! The second witness had over 200+ years to life, but in exchange for his false testimony was given immunity & a lower sentence of 15 years to life for more than 1 murder, and several attempted murders, kidnapping and robbery.
We all recognize our young black men are targeted on the streets and misrepresented in The Court of Law, that is supposed to bring JUSTICE! The system is inevitably set up to rob them of their freedom and integrity through all sorts of lies, and fabrications to keep them locked up for the rest of their lives where as they are treated less than human. Kejon is my only son that I love dearly and he is INNOCENT!!!
I have exhausted my funds over this 5 year period in attorneys fees. This is why my plea is to secure an Appeals Attorney to bring this nightmare to an end and I need your help. A Go Fund Me account has been set up to give Kejon a fair trial and to prove his innocence so he can come home to his daughter and family! No matter how small or big your help is greatly appreciated. All funds are for lawyer fees only to help bring justice for my son.
Thank you in advance for your financial support, generosity, kindness and prayers.
With love,
Tanya Woods,
Concerned Mother
