Keith's Heart Fund
Donation protected
Over 12 years after being diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, Keith recently entered into end-stage heart failure. Several trips and inpatient stays at Cleveland Clinic have occurred over the last few months. Keith has now been approved for a heart transplant. He is formally “listed” with the national and state of Ohio donor programs.
Most of you have generally known about Keith’s condition, but on Thursday, June 16, Keith underwent an open-heart surgical procedure in Cleveland to have an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) implanted as a “bridge to transplant.” This device will assist the pumping function of Keith’s failing heart until a suitable donor heart becomes available for him.
Following Keith's release from the Clinic, he and his family will be required to remain for about 8 weeks in a hotel room on the Clinic’s campus for post-op monitoring. The point of this email is to start a fund to help Keith and his family deal with the additional and unexpected costs associated with his treatment. Their family has incurred and will continue to incur enormous uninsured expenses, including airfare, hotel, food and any number of other day-to-day living expenses. This creates not only a heavy financial burden on him and his family, but it also is just one more thing they have to worry about in an already difficult time.
This GoFundMe account is being created as one way for Keith’s friends and family to show their love and support for Keith. Many of you have already asked how to help and this seems to be the best way to directly support him and his family right now. No donation is too small. Together we can try to help Keith, Anne and their children through this difficult time and relieve some of the emotional and financial impact associated with Keith’s continuing quest for good health and a long life.
With gratitude,
David Miller, Keith’s Law Partner and Friend
Clay Havill, Keith’s Law Partner and Friend
Patti Silke, Keith’s Assistant and Friend
