On Saturday, August 22nd, Keith Pounders of Coloma, Michigan was struck by a car while on the job. A driver lost control of their vehicle and drove into the road construction work zone, striking Keith head-on. Keith is currently at a Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids and is receiving the best care he can get during this time of recovery. Keith and his wife Renee have been together for six years. They have two children, Camren aged 5, and Ellie, who turns three on September 9. Keith has worked with Michigan Paving & Materials’ road construction crews for a year and a half and enjoys hunting and taking his kids to the park in his free time.
Keith’s family and work-family wish to use this incident to bring awareness of work zone safety. The National Work Zone Safety Information Clearinghouse reports that in 2018 alone there were 116 incidents around the country that killed road construction workers, and more than 600 fatal crashes within work zones total.
During this time, the family would like to thank each of you for the donations, thoughts, prayers and asks that you share Keith’s story to help bring awareness to work zone safety. No one can plan for something like this, especially in the trying times we face now.
