Keith Metzger is a loving husband, father and grandfather. In November we found out that he was 1 in 4 to ever have a very rare form of carcinoma in his left eye. Further testing has now provided yet another rarity. My father is 1 in 1 to ever have stage 4 Melanoma and the rare form of Carcinoma in the eye. The Melanoma was found during other testing that needed to be done to compile a plan to treat the Carcinoma. Unfortunately, the Melanoma has spread to his lymph nodes and has taken over his liver. He is to be recieving a new immuno fusion therapy starting 1/31/17. These treatments may or may not be covered by insurance, and cost anywhere from 30K - 50K per treatment. He needs 4 treatments to start. He has also spent a week in the hospital that medical bills have started to come in for.
My father is a fun loving, goofy man that is the center of our family. He is loved by many and is struggling with the idea of even needing financial help. He is a man that has worked his whole life as an HVAC technician and plumber. He has worked hard to provide for him and my mother, not to mention the grandkids he loves so much. The money we are hoping to raise will be going to medical bills and everyday bills as we move through this journey. We are hopeful that the treatments show some hope and positive results as we have been told that 4 or 5 years ago, he probably wouldn't be here right now.
With that in mind, I hope to illeviate some worry and tension regarding the ability to pay for these treatments and sustain their household through all of this. On top of the Melanoma, if and when they get it under control, he will still need surgery and treatments for the Carcinoma tumor in his left eye. Unfortunately, that rare tumor has been put on hold while they try to gain control of the Melanoma. Because the Melanoma has spread and taken over his liver, he is very sick and in pain every minute of every day. It is heartbreaking to watch the strong man I know as my father, be tired, weak and physically ill.
If you feel compelled, and have the means to help at all, we greatly appreciate it and thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If nothing more, please pray for my father and the doctors involved. Pray that the treatments help and he can have some kind of normalcy to the future. Thank you for reading and for any thoughts and prayers!
