Now He Needs Our Help!
Keith Vergel has always been that guy — the one who shows up for everyone else, no questions asked. He and Matt Moscato were best friends since childhood, and from the very beginning, Keith has been part of the Thomas Richards Charity family. Eighteen years in, he hasn’t missed a single golf outing. No spotlight. No recognition. Just loyalty, humility, and love. If you know Keith, you know he’s always good for a laugh — usually at his own expense — because that’s simply who he is.
Then, in a matter of weeks, everything changed.
What began as a routine surgery spiraled into a life‑threatening medical crisis. One hospital visit turned into 18 days across a 30‑day stretch. Complications. Emergency surgery. Sepsis. Kidney issues. The kind of terrifying moments you don’t just bounce back from. Keith has endured more in the last month than most people face in years. In his own words, he thought he was going to die three different times… and somehow, he made it through. But not without lasting complications and a long road ahead.
Now he’s home, trying to heal and rebuild his strength — but life doesn’t pause for recovery. Keith works in construction. He’s the guy who shows up early, works hard, and never complains. But as a contractor, if you don’t work, you don’t get paid. And right now, he physically can’t do the job that has always taken care of him. He’s recovering with a colostomy bag, facing significant medical bills, and staring down weeks — maybe months — without a paycheck.
And here’s the truth:
Keith would never ask for help.
He would try to shoulder all of this alone, even if it meant struggling in silence.
That’s exactly why we are asking for him.
Keith has been a friend to this charity since the day it was created — because he was a friend to Matt. Their bond is part of our story. Their loyalty to one another is part of our foundation. And taking care of Keith now is a way we honor both of them.
If you’ve ever believed in what this community stands for…
If you’ve ever said, “We take care of our own”…
This is one of those moments where it truly matters.
Not someday.
Not when it’s convenient.
Right now.
