In early September, Keith Callaway's life was unexpectedly turned upside down. A sudden, severe case of bacterial meningitis left him fighting for his life in the intensive care unit for three harrowing weeks. This devastating infection is an inflammation of the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, and it took a serious toll on his body.

During his time in the ICU, Keith was placed on a ventilator and had a drain in his head to relieve pressure from hydrocephaly. For three and a half weeks, he relied on tube feeding as his body fought to survive. By all accounts, his recovery is a miracle. He was eventually strong enough to be extubated and have the drain removed, a major milestone on his path back to health.

While he is now out of the ICU, Keith's battle is far from over. He was transferred to a rehab facility where he is working tirelessly to regain his strength and cognitive abilities through physical, occupational, and speech therapy. The road to full recovery will be long and challenging, with many obstacles to overcome.
