Keith Brandt Spousal Support Fund

If you're here, you know Larraine and Keith Brandt . You also know how difficult of a time it is for Larraine as she navigates all the challenges both emotional and financially that come with the passing of the man she has loved so much! I am personally amazed by the strength she has shown while also processing what I can't even begin to imagine is the worst pain of her life. Larraine is a warrior. She one of the strongest people I know and I’m certain she will make it through this tragedy and turn her heartbreak into something positive.
I know many of us can relate to the stress that a death of a loved one brings even in the best of times. So this fund is intended to help ease as much of the burden as we can on Larraine as she navigates all the challenges she has over the coming months. 100% of the funds will go directly to Larraine. There will be no stipulation on how she uses the money. I'm sure we can all agree that no matter the amount we manage to raise, she will put it to very responsible and valuable use.
Finally, Larraine was not consulted on the creation of this campaign as we thought she would see it as far too generous of her friends. But she is aware of it now and immensely grateful for the help financially. She is also deeply moved by how many amazing people truly care about her.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you so much for any help you can provide in easing the stress on Larraine as she navigate through this difficult time. - Megan
Below is what Larraine recently wrote on her Facebook page about Keith’s passing.
My Dear Friends,
It is from the abyss of my grief that I write to tell you of the passing of my sweet husband Keith.
His health has been declining for some time in spite of all efforts. The cancer had spread from his prostate into his bones, his liver, and his lymph nodes. The super-expensive cancer drug would not stay down--in spite of seven other anti-nausea pills and a patch to keep it down. (I have to wonder, in spite of what the doctors say, just how good a drug CAN be for you if the body tries so very hard to GET IT OUT.) A week ago, his kidneys began to fail.
Keith wanted to pass at home and, in spite of great hurdles, we finally made it home sometime this past week. He immediately became calmer and his breathing more peaceful. All three of the kids were able to spend time with him.
We had his all-time favorite movie Lonesome Dove playing on TV. Kelly was holding his hand on one side and I was snuggled up to him on the other. His best friend Dan was standing nearby.
There was no apparent pain, just a gradual slowing of his breathing, becoming more intermittent as the time approached. That made it difficult to know when he had taken his last breath--so I continued to watch for hours, wondering, hoping.... Wouldn't you know--he waited until the final music of Lonesome Dove was playing to pass?!!
It was a peaceful passing and I held off calling in the nurses and mortuary until the next day so that we could have some time of peace. Since then, I have been mostly sleeping.
We plan to have the Funeral Mass Saturday morning, November 12, at 10:00 a.m. at St Simon the Apostle Catholic Church.
I have so many people to thank, so many of you have helped us through these impossible years. Thank you. You have created bonds in my heart that shall be forever strong.
I cannot say more. I have poured out all I have in this fight. I send each of you my love and keep you in my prayers.
