Keirra Eames Medical Expenses & Recovery

My sister-in-law, Keirra, was rushed to the hospital, Monday evening, January 7th. She was very sick, and experiencing immobility and pain in her right arm.
With how low her blood pressure was reading and with a CT scan, they discovered she had an infection in her arm and was in septic shock. She was immediately put on antibiotics and a couple of hours later taken into surgery; to remove some of the infection and keep it from spreading.
On Tuesday, she was still in septic shock and critical condition. Her blood pressure had yet to stabilize and that was their biggest concern. Feeling helpless, they rushed her into surgery to save her life. They removed 40% of damaged muscle in her upper arm, along with other tissue and skin. It was during this surgery, they discovered that it wasn't just any regular infection, but a flesh eating (Necrotizing Fasciitis), bacterial infection: the strep virus.
They were, then, able to give her the proper medications and treatment for the virus. She was put on a heavy sedation and a ventilator. Because she had been in septic shock for a few days, and with all of the medications and fluids going into her; her body was slowly shutting down. Her kidneys being the first to show signs of damage, they started her on dialysis. Shortly after, due to her blood pressure medications, she developed a blood clot, in the opposite arm of the infection. It was at this point, they decided to life flight her to a more equipped hospital that had the proper equipment and medical staff, to handle the severity of her condition.
After arriving at Salt Lake Intermountain Hospital, there had been talk of her having both arms amputated. Her fingertips on her left arm were turning black from the blood clot. We insisted they do whatever was possible to save BOTH arms.
Keirra is a musician. Her escape is through playing piano and guitar and we knew she would need at least one arm, to have a fulfilled life ahead of her.
Keirra was taken into her fourth surgery, for both of her arms. They were able to remove the blood clot successfully, and removed more muscle and tissue in her right arm. She was now off all of her blood pressure medications and sedation and that was a huge step in the right direction. But with every step forward, it is then followed by three steps back. She had stopped breathing. They temporarily paralyzed her to avoid any movement, gave her two breathing treatments and was now on 100% oxygen.
Keirra was now unresponsive. They found swelling in her brain, fluid in her lungs, kidney stones and pancreatitis. She was in worst condition at this point. Her white blood cell count was continuing high, along with her acidity levels and because of this, they knew the virus/infection was still spreading.
She was taken into her fifth surgery to remove even more dead tissue and muscle. When they opened up her arm, they could see that the damage at that point, was no longer manageable. In order from keeping the infection from spreading to her chest/heart/lungs; they made the decision to finally AMPUTATE her right arm..
Keirra had still been unresponsive so her brain function was now their biggest concern. Finally, on Tuesday morning, the 15th, she was breathing on her own and was responding to voices! She could follow voices, lift her left arm when asked to, and open her eyes. This is HUGE progress. We still will not know the state of her brain function, until she is fully awake and responsive but we are remaining hopeful.
With how scary and worrisome all of this is for her husband, (and her) I don't want them to have to worry about the stress of the medical expenses. Especially because her husband, Tyler, just barely started a new job so they are WITHOUT health insurance at the moment.
Keirra is so strong and such a caring person. It's now time we do the same for her and help her when she needs it most. Her two boys need her. We all need her.
If you can't donate any money; prayers, positive thoughts, good vibes, WHATEVER you can give will be appreciated at this time.
