Keiri’s Battle with Covid-19

Keiri Cruz, 27, became ill and tested positive for Covid 19 on September 9th. He was home in isolation when on September 15th his oxygen level quickly dropped to a dangerous low of 18. He was taken to St. David’s hospital in Austin and admitted to the ICU. He was diagnosed with COVID pneumonia, put on high-flow oxygen, antibiotics, and a BiPAP machine to try to help push more oxygen into his lungs. He continued to struggle breathing and was placed on a ventilator the morning of September 20th. Doctors informed the family that Keiri’s only hope for recovery would be a specialized ECMO machine which pumps and oxygenates a patient's blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest. On September 24th a machine finally became available and he was life flighted to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. The process has been very slow and difficult and currently he is battling a staph infection and influenza.

Keiri is a warm, kind, loving and very respectful young man who would do anything for anyone. Keiri was recently engaged to Salma, and they are starting to plan their life together. Keiri’s parents, Reginaldo and Felipa, have been married for 28 years and have shown him the importance of finding a loving life partner.

Keiri has worked for Firestone for 7 years and is highly regarded as a hard-working, dependable, and honest worker. Keiri supports his family and is a positive role model to his younger brother Marco.

We are asking for your help for Keiri. Even though Keiri has insurance, the hospital bills and rehabilitation that he will need will be expensive. The money raised will help cover his medical expenses, hospital bills, rehabilitation and ongoing household expenses while he recovers.
