Hello. As some of you are already aware of Keira’s health journey this past year, some of you are not. Keira had some abdominal cramping/pain back in September and this is when she learned she only had 1 ovary or they possibly couldn’t find the right ovary. Then in October she was back in the emergency room with severe pain. At that point she learned she had 2 large cysts and one that had ruptured. Her hemoglobin was down to 9.8 at that point. She was sent home from the ER at that point on pain meds and to follow up with her clinic in women’s health. A few days later she went in for her follow up had some labs drawn again and at that point her hemoglobin was down to 9.6. She was still having excruciating pain. At that visit we learned that keira needed emergency surgery. The main focus at that point was getting her healthy. All while fearing she would lose her only ovary during surgery. Thankfully surgery went well. They removed 670ml of blood pooling in her abdomen and the ovary was saved. Her left ovary was twisted back and had adhered to the back of her uterus. The doctor had to remove the adhesions and place the ovary and tube where it is supposed to be. The doctors at that point learned that Keira never had a right ovary or fallopian tube. She was born with what is called Unilateral uterine adnexa absence. There are 38 known cases worldwide. Although this doesn’t necessarily mean infertility, she has a lesser chance. Keira was put on medication to help prevent more cysts from developing. Keira continues with discomfort and was back in to the clinic a few weeks ago. She had a CT with contrast and an Ultrasound completed. She had a small amount of fluid in her abdomen which potentially could have been a cyst that ruptured. Her ovary and tube were both inflamed as well. She was put on antibiotics and went back a week later for a follow up ultrasound. Thankfully her ovary and tube inflammation had gone down. With Keira’s continued issues with her ovary, we have discussed egg retrieval with her Doctor. This would be precautionary for if at some point she ends up having to have her ovary removed. So through the search of where to have egg retrieval/freezing done we learned the cost is quite high. Ranging to nearly $20,000 or more. Her doctor shared with us that she has patients that go abroad to have this done to save thousands of dollars. We have been doing our research and are thinking a trip abroad from start to finish would possibly be 10,000-$15,000. We are reaching out to family and friends for help. Any amount will help. We also understand if you are unable to help financially. We are greatful for all of your support!!
