This September, I’m challenging myself to run 5km every day in support of The Brain Tumor Charity (RN: 1150054). My goal is not only to raise funds for this incredible organisation but also to raise awareness about brain tumors and the importance of recognising their symptoms early.
Just before my 20th birthday, I was diagnosed with a non-cancerous brain tumor. While the doctors don’t yet know exactly how this will affect me in the long run, I am facing this challenge head-on and using my experience to raise awareness. Brain tumors are often overlooked or dismissed because their symptoms can be subtle, and that’s something I want to change.
The Power of Awareness:
For me, the symptoms were easy to ignore at first. I had persistent headaches, a brief episode of blindness in my right eye, and an isolated incident of slurred speech. At the time, I didn’t realise that these seemingly minor things could be linked to something as serious as a brain tumor. It wasn’t until I went to the doctor that I learned the cause.
The truth is, brain tumors don’t always have clear symptoms, and many people live with them without realising it. That’s why spreading awareness is so important. We need to make sure people understand the symptoms and take them seriously. The earlier a tumor is detected, the better the chances of improving outcomes.
Why The Brain Tumor Charity Is So Important:
The Brain Tumor Charity is doing incredible work. From funding groundbreaking research to providing support for patients and families, they are at the forefront of the fight against brain tumors. Their work is vital in improving treatment options, raising awareness, and ultimately finding a cure.
Every donation helps fund essential research, support services, and education that can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by brain tumors. With your help, we can continue moving toward a future where brain tumors are no longer a silent battle.
A Big Thank You:
I want to take a moment to thank my incredible support network, especially my mum, dad, and my brother Mason, along with my boyfriend and friends. Your love, strength, and encouragement have carried me through some of the scariest moments. I couldn’t have made it through this without you.
Despite Everything, I’m Happy and Grateful:
Despite all the uncertainty, I’m happy. I love life, I enjoy every day, and I refuse to let this diagnosis define me. I am stronger than I ever knew, and every step I take in this 5km challenge is a reminder of the strength I have to keep going.
How You Can Make a Difference:
This is where you come in. Whether you’re able to donate, share this page, or simply spread the word, every bit of support helps. Your contributions will go toward funding life-changing research, providing crucial support, and helping to raise awareness of brain tumor symptoms.
Thank you for reading my story, for your support, and for being part of this journey. Together, we can make sure that people know the signs and symptoms of brain tumors, so no one has to face this alone.
