Athena our sweet beloved Belizean rescue pup had an emergency event on Thanksgiving Day. The entire left side of her face was sagging. The orientation of her eyes were off.  We thought she was having a stroke. We knew something was wrong and rushed her to an emergency vet who did not find anything wrong! But she looked bad (her eyes still would not orient correctly) so the next day we took her to another ER vet. They said that she had a mass in her eye that had caused acute secondary glaucoma. Her eye pressure was over 60 (normal is 12-20)! They told us that she was now blind and sent us home with multiple medications. Two days later we returned to the ER vet. The meds didn't seem to be working.

They told us that we would need to remove her eye to relieve the pain she was feeling and to biopsy the tumor. The pressure in her eye was still causing her significant pain even though she had gone blind.

Athena is currently taking 3 different eye medications 3 times each day to manage the fluctuating pressure. She has been advised to have surgery as soon as we are able to do so. 

This dog has been our dearest furry companion. She has loyally loved all who have come into her little world. She has bravely defended our apartment from delivery men and strangers. She seems to intuit when someone needs a snuggle or a hug and has devotedly cared for us when we were ill. When she was a puppy many thought she was a homely ill tempered dog. She had horrible mange and wasn't socialized. But with love and attention she grew to be the sweetest most beautiful dog we could have asked for. 

Please help us to help her now that she is unwell. Medication is only a short term solution. Please help us to reach our $5000 goal: the cost of enucleating her eye, biopsying the tumor and vet visit bills.
