Keeva's surgery fund

This is gofundme is to raise money for Keeva Lilith Carroll.

Keeva is a trans woman who came out in 2016. For the past 14 years she has worked in the NGO sector for various international organisations, including Oxfam and Concern Worldwide. She has a degree in Digital Media: Video and also a Masters in International Development. Since coming out she has used her skills to work for her own community and is currently the National Community Development Officer with the Transgender Equality Network of Ireland (TENI) where she works on mental health and developing resilience within the Irish trans community. This work involves liaising with the various trans support groups that exist around the country and other community organistations, as well as doing workshops, presentations and organising events. She also volunteers as a facilitator of the Dublin Trans Peer Support Group. She is involved in much online community activism within the feminist community, though moreso in the background supporting other activists in their work, particularly around the repeal referendum. It is through these groups that I first meet and got to know Keeva.

Over the past four years she has gotten to the stage where she is focusing on the surgical element of transition. Unfortunately dealing with the public system in this regard is difficult in Ireland, with quite a few roadblocks along the way such as being forced to wait a year and half to see an endochrinologist to start hormone treatment as well as difficulties with the many psycological and psychiatric assesments that are required in the Irish system. Keeva requires these surgeries in order to alleviate her dysphoria and move on with her life beyond medical transition. Her plan is to have both facial feminisation surgery and gender affirmation surgery in Argentina where the costs are lower and where they offer a more modern, advanced and informed consent model of trans healthcare. Keeva has fair ginger hair and so is unable to have lazer surgery to remove her facial and body hair and so will require extensive electrolysis to remedy this, which is considerably more expensive. It will cost at least €30,000 for Keeva to obtain the treatments she requires.

As you can imagine, the cost of this is prohibitive to most people – including Keeva who can not finance these procedures on her modest income from her charity work. It’s for this reason that I have started this gofundme (with Keeva’s full support) so that we can raise enough so that she can have her surgeries and get on with living a full, happy life.

Keeva has provided so much support to others (myself included) in many different ways. This is a chance for us to support her.
