Keera's Haven

Donation protected
To my wonderful, supportive North Bay family.  On behalf of Keera Daniel and the Stiller family, we would like to express the deepest thank you from the bottom of all our hearts for the strength, prayers and support you have shown us all during these past few months.  The generous donations provided by all of you via the GofundMe, car wash,Chippewa High School fundraisers and The Soccer Association, has been a tremendous help with all the travelling expenses, accommodations and small equipment required for Keera's daily ease.
As some of you, but not all know, Keera was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in early January after a fall on her knee. She was airlifted to Ottawa to be looked at by specialists to determine our next steps.  We have since been separated from our community, supporting her and her ongoing battle at C.H.E.O in Ottawa. Our daily lives have been uprooted and we still have so far to go.
While in Ottawa, Keera began rounds of chemotherapy in hopes that the cancer in her leg would cease.  However, to no avail, the chemo did not work and we further received the next course of action which resulted in even more devastating news, that Keera must undergo a surgery to amputate her left leg.  The cancer was aggressive and progressing too fast for the chemo being attempted to help her.  The cancer which began in her lower femur had now destroyed her knee and was moving further up her thigh.  The staff at C.H.E.O advised us that what they would proceed in doing a procedure that would enable Keera to eventually use a prosthetic limb easier than full amputation would.  The procedure was called Rotationplasty and frantically we all began "googling" images and information regarding this.  Keera being the brave warrior she has always proven to be, decided that this was a much better choice than full leg amputation.  Her quality of life after would be more rewarding, even considering the blows she has already had at such a young age. Rotationplasty by definition is a partial amputation of the leg above the knee.  The lower leg and foot are rotated 180 degrees and the tibia is then fused to the remaining portion of the femur.  The foot is positioned where the knee used to be with the heel portion in front and the toes pointing backwards.  The ankle then becomes her new knee.
This isn't by any means the end of our journey.  Keera is still required to continue 17 further weeks of treatment, resulting more time living in Ottawa.  We have been advised that everything in our home will be required to change, from flooring, to stair lifts , to ramps entering the home, doors being changed directions based on how she can enter rooms , all accommodations to help Keera come home.
Your generosity has already been proven 1000% and then some and again has touched us deeply to know that friends, acquaintances and even strangers have done everything they possibly could to help our daughter with her fight.  Some of the equipment needed still, such as ramps, vehicle modification & prosthetic devices as she continues to grow, may somewhat partially be funded, however, we have been told that it could be hard to get the funding or the time it takes to apply in time to be ready for Keera to return home.  We are pleading with you, our North Bay family to visit our new GoFundMe page:
and show Keera that we all continue to believe in her fight, her strength and sheer determination to beat this awful disease.
We wish you all well.
Sincerely;
Keera Daniel, Kerri & Gord Stiller
