In 2011, Stephanie was a healthy high schooler who was ready to conquer the world. She has always been known for giving her best to every situation, and on the day of her heat stroke, she was again giving her all during her softball team's practice.
Fully hydrated, she went to her high school team's practice on a day when temperatures were expected to soar to over 100 degrees. Despite taking all precautions to stay cool, she overheated and had a massive heat stroke during practice. She has never been the same and there is no known cure. Her body has not healed since the initial incident.
We have had multiple medical tests run, which has cost us thousands of dollars (multiple MRI's, EEG's, EKG's, blood tests, hormone tests, etc.) She now has to see a Neurologist regularly due to brain injury caused by the heat stroke, and she is on a seizure medication twice a day with the expectation that it will be increased. Again, she was a healthy teenager with no issues prior to the heat stroke!
Besides the physical damage done to her body, you can imagine the emotional damage this has caused. Not one day has gone by without Stephanie having to prepare for any situation where she might immediately go into another heat stroke or Absence Seizure by simply walking into a stuffy room, a stuffy elevator, or across a hot parking lot to her car. Even now while she is in college, she has had to leave classrooms multiple times due to the air being mildly stuffy, so she has missed out on a considerable amount of instruction time. In addition, during warm and hot months, she has to have her college's Security vehicle get her to her classes and back to her dorm because of the risk of succumbing to the heat. But there have been many times that she has had to stay in her dorm room without going to class because the heat outside was too much for her.
PLEASE help Stephanie by donating to this fund so she may get more custom-made shirts and equipment that have cooling technology!! Our families have graciously helped us purchase an initial custom-made cooling shirt and equipment ($700), but Stephanie needs more so that she does not have to wear the same shirt every single day during the warm and hot months. She also needs additional equipment that will allow her to function more normally. Our hopes are to get her: 5 more shirts with tubing, an extra battery for the cooling equipment, a cooling blanket so she will stop having heat issues at nighttime, and, additional bottles of tubing additive (protects the inner walls of the tubing). We are asking for a total of $1,500 (which would also cover shipping & handling costs). The company we are ordering from is: http://coolshirt.com/msusa/
(Click on the Heat Intolerance section)
Please also join us in praying for her healing!! She needs all the support she can get.
Thank you everyone!
