Medical expenses for Curtis Babcock
Donation protected
My name is Joseph Johnson and I am here on behalf of my dear friend Curtis Babcock.
As long as I have known Curtis, there is one word I would use to describe him:
indomitable.
From an early an age as 13, I have had the pleasure of watching Curtis take challanges head-on and meet both victory and failure with enthusiasm. Even in times of great stress, Curtis remains enthusiastic. He would tell me later: "there's so much negativity around[these days] I might as well not add to it".
In the classroom, he was a constant source of friendly energy: as comfortable talking about comics as he was about sports or politics. Happy to hear your side but ever a staunch supporter of his beliefs and views. Comfortable in your arena or his own, it was only those in his inner circle that he let know when life had worn him down.
He has spent the entirety of his adult life since high school in the humble service of others, from serving patrons at the restaurants he has worked at, to offering our youth in the community advice and encouragement.
It is because of his devotion to our community, his friendly spirit and unshakable optimism that I ask for your help today.
Curtis went to the hospital at the end of March for dka, a common yet severe condition for diabetics. Immediately after he recognized his symptoms, we drove to the hospital to get things under control. What was set to be a simple one night stay at the hospital turned into a weeklong stay after doctors discovered an anomaly with Curtis's heart. Several tests later, the doctors confirmed that Curtis had not one, but two heart issues; one causing a backflow of blood into the heart, which during any strenuous activity could cause heart failure; and the other a literal thickening of the muscle. Both of these conditions will require extensive surgery.
As of right now, there is a benefit planned for july 26 at Leroy's hot stuff in Porter Indiana, where we will be attempting to raise funds to help mitigate the cost involved in such an undertaking. For those who cannot attend or cannot donate the day of the benefit, we have set up this gofundme page to allow another avenue of charity and good will.
All proceeds from this page will be immediately available upon request from Curtis, and will be used to fund expenses that are sure to pop up along the way to his surgery and recovery. Should anyone feel a more direct path of giving is in order, I will facilitate, simply message me or curtis and we will give you that information.
No donation is too small when the need is so great, so please share this page with your friends and family, so that Curtis's story can be heard!
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your time and prayers for my good friend Curtis.
