Keep Puerto Rico Working

They say, "small businesses are the back bone of job creation". migo IQ was recognized by the White House TechHire Initiative in December, 2016 for bringing much needed jobs to Puerto Rico.

But as a company that began in 2014 on the island of Puerto Rico and since expanded to the USA mainland and beyond, the Category 5 Hurricane Maria devastated the island. All the businesses which pay employees so they can provide for their families are under great stress. We are one of those companies. Puerto Rico's infrastructre (little things like power, water, banking, food, etc.) is making it difficult for people - specifically our team based on the island - to continue working.

And, being able to work and bring home an income matters. It is stabilizing. It provides. It keeps a sense of dignity.

So we want to "Keep Puerto Rico Working Until Puerto Rico Works Again."  Our goal is to temporarily relocate 11 employees to work centers in the US and allow them to keep working.

Who Will Benefit?

First, 11 Puerto Rican software developers and their families are part of the team of our startup company.  They will directly experience your help to temporarily relocate and continue providing to the economy of the island while Puerto Rico rebuilds.

Second, you will help keep a young company active investing in  and developing jobs for Puerto Rico.

As an employer and provider of jobs, we do not want to abandon Puerto Rico. We want to temporarily relocate our staff to the main land to work remotely while infrastructrue is rebuilt.

What Does This Support Mean To Us?

At the end of the day, this is about these families. There is great dignity in working. It stabilizes hearts and keeps family life going. For these Puerto Rican families, it will mean that assistance is not simply coming from FEMA or the Red Cross but through their own means - by working. And by helping them get reestablished temporarily, the company has a chance to survive until the infrastructure is rebuilt on the island.

Companies like ours will go out of business in Puerto Rico before infrastructure is rebuilt. Other employers will not return. But we are not going to give up on Puerto Rico. We want to keep Puerto Rico working until Puerto Rico works again.

But right now, we need your help. We need your help to get this team and their families to a stable place where they can "make a lunch and go to work".  We need your help to keep Puerto Rico working until Puerto Rico works again. Can you share the risk with them? This team is willing to take and live with less until stablity returns to the island. But to keep them stewarding their gifts we need to help stablize them to new locations where they can live and work remotely. They say a companies greatest asset is their people. We agree but what does a company do when their is no infrastructure to work. We need your help to invest in these 11 who will reinvest in their homes and their families and the economy.

How Will the Money Be Used?

The funds will be used for two things. First, to purchase airline tickets for travel to temporary work and living locations. We are blessed to have partners and clients offer lodging/offices in Missouri, Florida, Texas and New Mexico. Second, to cover monthly living expenses -  food and incidental living expenses - to help give them a little financial push so that they can work and focus on returning to Puerto Rico and figuring out life as a working refugee.

How Soon Are Funds Needed?

Our goal is to relocate these 11 families by October 31, 2017.

Why Is This Important?

On November 1, we want to recognize not just the saints that have preceded us in life but to celebrate All Saints Day reveling in the kindness of living saints who invested directly in keeping families in Puerto Rico working so that they could continue to provide for their families and reinvesting in the economy.

Thank you for joining us in the campaign to "Keep Puerto Rico Working Until Puerto Rico Works Again."
