Hello everyone,

On Saturday September 8, I was working diligently in my studio to complete an order. (I am a seamstress, running a small business on my own). While cutting fabric using an electric rotary cutter, I severed my left index finger.

I was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital, where I was told my finger could not be reattached. It was patched to cover the exposed bone and will never have a nailbed again.

Luckily, I do have insurance so my medical bills are covered. I will be out of work for 2 months at least, however. Being a sole proprietor means that if I stop working, there is no money coming in. I can’t cut, sew, press, or do anything I do to run this business.

As of now, I’ve pushed my clients back but some have very tight deadlines and have canceled their orders altogether. If I can meet my goal, that would allow me to compensate for the loss of work and pay my studio rent and other bills, hire some help, purchase tools to compensate for my slower speed, and purchase a prosthetic finger to help with daily tasks.

Anyone who knows me could attest to two things: I hate asking for help, and I am always working. I love what I do and am so proud of my business. It’s been a life long dream of mine, and I’d hate to see it disappear from this accident.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated during this time.

Best,
Louise
