I’m asking for help for my family as we face a housing crisis. I’ve been out of work for the last two weeks because of an illness, and while I’m waiting for my leave-of-absence claim for short-term disability to be processed, I haven’t had any income coming in to pay our rent.

I’m the only income supporting our household of seven, including my wife and our children, who range in age from 2 to 14. I’ve tried everything I could think of to keep us afloat, including applying for personal loans, credit cards (but I was denied) and even donated plasma and selling my personal items on eBay. I’ve even sold personal items on eBay to help pay for expenses. At this point, we are dangerously close to eviction, and this fundraiser is my last resort.

This situation has been overwhelming. The thought of my wife and kids, both young and older, sleeping in a car is enough to send anyone into a panic attack. What’s at stake is my family’s whole life and future, and I’m doing everything I can to keep a roof over our heads while I get through this setback.

The funds from this fundraiser will first go toward our overdue September rent, and any remaining support will help cover October’s rent, which is coming up soon. Once rent is caught up, I can focus on our other bills through other means, like reaching out to government agencies or contacting companies for extensions. Rent is not something I can keep extending. My landlord has already let me go this long without eviction, and I can’t afford to burn that bridge or push that understanding any further.
