Keeping Colby's Dream and Legacy Alive

Donation protected
Our son Colby Burk unexpectedly passed away from heart failure on July 20 of 2020 in New York City where he was living his dream; he lived a couple blocks from Central Park where he went for his morning runs to get ready for the day. He loved the energy of the city, the lights, his friends and traveling.

He had a fulfilling job at Regeneron Pharmaceutical, he was a manger of the Precision Medicine Operations and Companion Diagnostics team intimately involved in their efforts to operationalize clinical trials with their anti-spike monoclonal antibody cocktail, REGN-COV2, as well as their companion diagnostics efforts in Oncology and myriad of other projects across their portfolio. He loved being a part of something bigger and having the opportunity to help millions of people around the world. Colby’s teammates described him as “Incredibly organized and effective, Colby was also known for his energetic and optimistic presence, his sense of humor and his ability to help those around him feel better. He was a bright light who will be sorely missed”.

Colby graduated from Seattle University with a bachelors in cell/cellular and molecular biology, and a master’s in business administration and management. Colby was currently taking classes at Harvard University to get another master’s in biotechnology.

One of Colby’s dreams was to help pay for college for his niece Danica and nephew Skyler.  He established a college fund to help secure their tuition a couple weeks before he unexpectedly passed away. Many of his friends going all the way back to middle school have reached out wanting to help the family and or do something for Colby. All the family wants is our Colby back and since that is not possible, we ask for you to donate to this fund for their college education. Going forward when we share the memories of Colby with Danica and Skyler as they grow up, we can tell them he loved you so much and started this college fund to ensure you didn’t acquire the enormous debt to get a college education. We created this go fund me page to raise money for Danica and Skyler’s college fund to keep Colby’s dream and legacy alive. All money donated will be directly moved to the DreamAhead College Investment Plan that will pay for their college.

Everyone that knew Colby knows he made the world sparkle. He was a loving and caring person that wanted the best for everyone he encountered whether it be at home, work or with his friends. He had a unique quality that made you feel like you were special, he was charismatic and had a magnetic personality that touched many people in his short 29 years.

He had just bought an Akita puppy and named him Gunnarbear who brought even more joy to his life. One of Colby’s friends from work adopted his puppy Gunnarbear and created an Instagram page “gunnarbear313” so we can all continue watching him grow up.

Colby is survived by his Father Bill, Mother Lynn, older Brother Cory and younger Brother Caden. He was an amazing and inspirational son, loving, caring and thoughtful  nephew and grandson.

If you listen to the first song on his Spotify playlist (Colbster) you will get a look inside Colby's heart, feel his spirit, his dreams, and the wish he had for all of us. The song is: Class of 2017 Mash-up: My Wish / I Hope You Dance / The Climb / I Lived

Together we can make Colby’s dream come true and keep his legacy alive. He will always be looking down on us from heaven and his spirit will remain with us forever through his family and friends.
