Geeks Keeping Gaza Connected

GazaOnline is a volunteer effort to provide free electronic SIM cards, or eSIMs, to Gazan families in order to remain in contact with each other, the outside world, and life-saving emergency services. The initiative was kickstarted by Gaza Sky Geeks alumni and is now being supported by techie volunteers across the world. We rely on individual in-kind donations of E-Sim cards and quickly match them with families in Gaza via Whatsapp and/or email.

Over the last 10 days, we have sent over 1,400 eSIMs directly to Gazans who have reached out to us through our networks on the ground.

Different eSIMs only work in certain parts of Gaza depending on network strength coming from Israel and Egypt. Matching the right eSIM to someone’s circumstances is essential. To help, we have volunteers working 24/7 to provide activation and troubleshooting support to recipients of eSIMs. But sometimes certain eSIMs are in greater demand and we run short, unable to fulfill an immediate need. That’s why we have decided to also accept monetary donations to be able to flexibly balance our supply and demand of eSIMs.

Funds collected will only be used to purchase eSIMs for direct donation to Gazans in need. If there are excess funds after the need for e-SIMs completes, we will donate any remaining funds to Gaza Sky Geeks and Mercy Corps for their eventual rebuilding efforts.
