Keeping Fighting A

Donation protected
My dear friend Anthony and his family are in need of a cure. That’s not something we can give, but we can help to ease the burden of his mounting medical bills, and hopefully help to make his life about more than waiting to die by giving him the means to make memories with his family while he’s still feeling well enough to do so.

In January 2019, a month shy of his 48th birthday, and after months of down to the bone aches and overwhelming exhaustion, Anthony was diagnosed with Metastatic Melanoma; skin cancer he’d had years and years ago that they thought the doctors had removed, metastasized to his lymph nodes.

His battle has been an up and down roller coaster with treatments that work for a time, battling back the intense pain, weakness and exhaustion for long enough that he and his family think they’ve got a handle on it, only for the treatment to suddenly stop being effective causing his health to plummet. Through all of this, he has been optimistic and determined to fight to the end, even continuing his full-time job for as long as his health allowed it.

In June 2020, he took a turn for the worse, spending weeks in the hospital, as we all braced for the worst. And for some of that time, Covid kept his loved ones from being with him. He had to face death alone without the ones he needs by his side.

His doctors have started him on his fourth course of treatment, and miraculously he’s come back from the brink. He's home now, but cancer doesn’t just affect you physically. It hammers at your spirit. He and his family live in a constant state of dread, every ache worrisome, every bout of exhaustion a sign, the waiting for the blood work results and fearing the words they've heard too many times already...the treatment is no longer working.

WHY AM I SETTING UP A GOFUNDME NOW?
In the last week, he’s been feeling the pain again; his last blood tests showed that his levels were increasing. And after the harrowing experience in June and July, in his gut, Anthony knows it’s not a matter of if, but when, and he’s running out of options for treatment.

Living with cancer is hard enough, but doing so during a pandemic is even harder, the feeling of isolation, the inability to make the most of the moment, to be quarantined with nothing but fear and worry as constant companions. The goal of this GoFundMe is to help ease the burden of their medical bills as well as to distract Anthony and his family from the worry of their new reality by giving them the means to cross off at least a few of his bucket list items.

Who is Anthony? He’s a gentleman, a man who epitomizes that word…honorable and courageous. He lives by his own code…fiercely protective of the ones he loves, loyal, wisecracking, honest and no nonsense. Had he lived in a different time, he’d have given the likes of Wyatt Earp a run for his money. My wish for him and his family is that the sum of his life isn’t reduced to his illness, that whatever time he has left he gets to live it like he’s lived his life…all in, sliding into the finish line with a big smile.
