Hi my name is Penny, I have had City Pizza-Home of the big slice for a number of years. After my partner up and left without a word, my ride or die of 30 years stepped up to help. As well as our son. Sadly my ride or die, actually did. Its been almost 2 years since he passed. My son and I are doing our best to keep it going. Along with another significant person in my life does what he can. Unfortunately between the economy and a shelter the city put in right beside us has had a major impact on us. Sadly the influx of homeless has caused many of our regular customers to not come back and that the neighborhood is "scary", so we've been told. We have watched and been witness to how mistreated our friends on the street can be. We provide a hot meal almost every month. For example Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas we do what's called Turkey dinner pizza. Other months we do a spaghetti dinner. We do what we can to give back to the community. As mentioned we are in difficult economic times and we are going through lemony snicket a series of unfortunate events. We finally had to buy a security gate for our alcove. People were doing their bathroom business in there, doing drugs and leaving behind needles and drug paraphernalia. My son's 6 year old daughter comes here frequently. She absolutely loves it here. It scares me to think of her being hurt. Then a Pepsi rep comes and tells me what i thought was my pop cooler is the property of Pepsi so i had to buy a new cooler. Then my prep table's compressor goes(i even had to pay for their mistake-the worker got the wrong compressor and had to go back to the wholesaler, their company charged for that time and their work lunch) and a month later i had to call them back in because it still wasn't working properly. Needless to say i don't use them any more. Then my neon sign goes out. The company is still working on it. Turns out my sign is a bit of a conundrum. Then the compressor goes on my walk-in/fridge cooler(got stung by tariffs on that one). Thankfully i caught it in time and i was able to save a lot of my product. Then one my windows got smashed, this is now window number 8. In the downtown core insurance companies won't insure glass due to the fact of how many windows get smashed on a regular basis. As well as you can imagine I've maxed out the credit cards. I did round up a little so that if there was any left over funds I would like to try and give the shop as much of a face lift as possible. With humble appreciation for every dollar we will able to continue our dream and help support our community.
And before I was even able to to finish this post, BOOM there went window number 9! Thanks to a Vodka bottle being thrown through the window and smashing all over my kitchen.
