Meet Holden Gray. He's my nephew, the light of our lives and the most handsome gentleman I know (how about those baby blues)! Holden was born at Jordan Valley Hospital on October 4th to my brother Jess and his wife Shanna. He was not breathing or moving and was immediately life flighted to Primary Childrens Hospital where he spent the first 8 weeks of his life. After weeks of worry, stress and numerous tests he was finally diagnosed with an extremely rare condition known as Congenital Myasthenia Syndrome. CMS is a neuromuscular condition that affects his ability to breathe on his own and move.
On November 5th, Holden underwent surgery for a Tracheotomy (to assist him with breathing), a G-tube (to assist with feeding) and wrapped his stomach around itself (to alleviate reflux). All of this he handled like a champ! As did his parents who have been pillars of strength. He was transferred to another facility that specializes in respiratory rehabilitation on December 8th where they are working to wean him off a hospital grade ventilator to a home ventilator so they can finally bring him home.
Despite the incredibly tough circumstances his parents have faced, never once have I heard them complain. Shanna was released from the hospital less than 12 hours after giving birth and they have rarely left his side. Even living in an RV in the hospital parking lot in order to be close to him. Holden will require around the clock care and they have devoted countless hours to research and preparation to ensure Holden not only receives the best care, but is given the absolute best life possible.
As difficult as this situation may be, life continues to go on. Mortgages & bills still need to be paid, medical bills pile up and time off work to attend various care conferences, surgeries and medical appointments account for lost wages. This fund has been established to ensure that covering their mounting expenses is one less thing they have to worry about. Any and every donation received is greatly appreciated as are any prayers, good thoughts and well wishes for this special little boy and his incredible parents. I love these human beings with everything I am. I love the opportunity we all have to help one another. Life is good, and so are people!
