Keep Fighting The Fight Bo!

So many people who have had the pleasure of meeting my husband, never forget him. He's such a beautiful loving soul and has biggest heart of anyone I've ever known. Truly the life of the party and could make you laugh at the drop of a hat. The love of my life, soulmate, and best friend. Back in 2016, our lives changed ferociously as he was diagnosed with high grade stage 4 appendiceal cancer. In February 2017, he underwent a grueling 13 hour surgery to remove over 35lbs+ of cancerous tumors from his abdomen (along with 5 vitalorgans). Miraculously he survived! But in May of 2019, he underwent the same surgery to remove what had recurred in 2018. As if recovering from the first surgery wasnt hard enough, the 2nd surgery really took its toll on what was left of him. He dealt with the worst gastrointestinal issues and was withering away in front of me. He was down to 96lbs the day we were admitted from Emory's ER on Oct 6th and he's been in ICU since Oct 7th. Shortly after, he fell unrepsonsive and has been ever since. The whole ICU team and specialists unfortunately have zero answers for this. What started as an admission for a bowl obstruction quickly turned into: pneumonia, kidney failure, dialysis, fluid build up around his heart & lung, severe adema, breathing issues that required a ventilator (soon tracheotom), constant heart rate & blood pressure issues, aspirations, tubal feedings, infections...and Doctors are still trying to figure out his diagnosis. He was originally treated for a condition called TTP, but he was ruled out to be negative. He's currently being treated for a rare disease called "HUS", but the final confirmation wont be back for about a month. In the meantime, all that can be done is treating every current and new symptom as best as possible in hopes he one day wakes up. And all I can do is be here and helpless watch and hope ever day for a miracle. We've been together 6 years and I've been his caregiver for 4. Needless to say, its been quite a journey for us but we still keep hanging on to hope that one day he will be ok enough for us to enjoy life. We have a combined family of 3 children (14, 10, and 9) and they have been his reasons to keep up the fight. Unfortunately, this has been the hardest part of our journey as it came so unexpectedly. I'm currently on unpaid FMLA to continue being his caregiver and spend every day with him in ICU. Hes been unable to work for quite sometime, but he always tird his hardest to be healthy enough to get back behind the wheel of his truck. If you know me, I'm super stubborn and not one to ask for help. My pride has always been my downfall, but I can't keep silently struggling with everything I have going on and acting like I'm ok. So as I sit here in the hospital's chapel with tears in my eyes, I'm asking for your help. On top of worrying about his health status every second of everyday, the emotional state of our children, and trying to keep myself from breaking; the world doesn't stop. I constantly worry about our financial state, coverage for our home & family expenses, and the livelihood of his small company that means everything to him. I wholeheartedly ask if you could you please help relieve our situation by contributing to our GoFundMe? Any contribution (no matter how small) is more than appreciated and every penny will be put to use where its needed most. I've also listed options for PayPal or Venmo for additional convenience. I can't thank everyone enough for your love, support, and prayers that have followed us for over 4 years now. Every bit has helped us continue to push on. My husband is the most stubborn man in the world but was never a quitter...and he's instilled that in me as well. So we continue fight on together with the help of everyone around us. Thank you again so much for your love and support. Sincerely, Michelle Smith Venmo: @Ladysmith425 PayPal: [email redacted]
