#Keep Dignity Alive

Many Nigerian women seek greener pastures outside the shores of Nigeria. This arises because of economic hardships experienced due to the high unemployment rate in Nigeria (¬16% for women, and ¬25% for age group 15 - 24). In the process of looking for a way out of this difficulty, many women fall victim to false international immigration promises which, in most cases, turn out to be of the entry point to slavery and human trafficking. They unknowingly enter a contract to repay their agents, who later subject them to all sorts of inhumane treatment including prostitution to repay their captors.

Recently, we all witnessed the burial of 26 Nigerian women and young girls who were drowned while crossing the Mediterranean Sea to pursue the illusion of greener pastures in Europe. It was reported that over 100 people died, but 26 bodies were recovered. This was a preventable tragedy.

Beauty in Every Life wants to create awareness and an alternative value proposition to these false immigration promises by providing sound education on personal leadership and entrepreneurship, and empowering young Nigerian women and girls to make the right choices.

We believe that this will reduce the demand for trafficking and self-submission to slavery.

I believe that we are all beautiful inside and out. I believe that we all have talents and gifts that can become valuable to others and help us gain financial independence. I believe that women can leverage their gifts and talents and become even more productive if they are shown how.

I know that the lack of financial and economic abilities can rob young women of their confidence and dignity.

We want to show women and young girls in Africa how to work for themselves and become economically empowered, so they can be confident enough to say ‘no’ to human trafficking. We want to challenge the belief that the potential of African women can only be realised outside of Africa. This dangerous mindset encourages women to risk their lives to leave the continent. We believe that cultivating the right entrepreneurial mind-set will prevent this from re-occurring.

It starts with you taking action today.

I'm running this campaign, raising funds for the Beauty in Every Life Initiative in Nigeria to create a city-to-city personal Leadership and Entrepreneurship training event with online program follow-up workshops to support young women in Nigeria to become more economically empowered and confident enough to make better life choices.

My name is Ebere Akadiri, and I’m the founder of Ataro Food and Spices in the Netherlands, and the author of the Vibrant West African Cuisine cookbook. I come from Nigeria, and I help people experience the vibrant cuisine of West Africa through lively cooking workshops, cooking videos and spice blends.

I also co-founded Beauty in Every Life with the mission to help vulnerable women and children discover their talents and unleash the potential within them.

I have seen many African ladies who were lured into Europe at a young age. I have seen the suffering of those trying to survive under the European welfare system with many children. I have volunteered for another charity organisation to teach entrepreneurship to rescued West African trafficked young women in the Netherlands. I have heard their stories.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that over 3,000 people have died in 2017 while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Africa to Europe.  We can no longer continue to keep silent, because the potential of a generation is being wasted.

We can prevent this tragedy by supporting the Beauty in Every Life campaign to keep dignity alive through entrepreneurship and leadership education. We can equip young women in Nigeria to become financially independent, and to resist being lured with false immigration promises.

Will you support me?

All I’m asking is for you to donate in exchange for a copy of my Vibrant West African Cookbook. If you pre-order a copy today, we will ship it to you in March.

Your donation will help us pay for the cookbook editing, publishing and printing, and the profit will go directly to the Beauty in Every Life campaign to #KeepDignityAlive.

This donation will be used to organise a one-week leadership and entrepreneurship Summer Bootcamp in July 2018 for young Nigerian women aged 18-30 years.

We will organise these camps starting in two Nigerian cities, depending on the level of funding received. We will focus on personal development training, confidence building, financial literacy and entrepreneurship training, and help these young women to choose business ideas and develop a business plan.

We intend to run two camps with 100 women in each, with a total target of 200 women at the begining. Afterwards, we will continue to support the women through online workshops and by pairing them with mentors who will support them in setting up their businesses.

We are asking for €10,000 for the initial camp expenses, including training.
