On Monday, September 8th, Gerson López Funez , was detained by ICE at 13th and Farragut for a supposed traffic infraction while travelling home with is family in Washington, DC.
Gerson's family including his 7-year old non-verbal autistic daughter and 15-month old baby were left on the side of the road.
As a result of his detention, Gerson's daughter, Zoe, has been entered into deportation hearings despite being 7-years old and growing up in the U.S. for most of her life. Zoe is currently enrolled in a DCPS school where she receives the care she needs.
We are urgently trying to raise funds for an attorney to represent Zoe as she is now no longer linked to her parents and needs to go through the deportation proceedings on her own. Without proper support there is a chance she can be deported back to Honduras while her father is still in detention.
While the outpouring of support for Gerson and his family has been overwhelming, more money is needed to secure a lawyer for Zoe and keep her safe. The request is urgent with a court date scheduled in early October.
Every donation, no matter the size is welcome as an act of support to the family to let them know they are not alone in this traumatic circumstance. We ask that you also share as widely as possible.
On behalf of the entire López Funez family, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.
