Hello, my name is Zari and I’m a first generation student from Jamaica at Delaware State University. My single mother has tried her hardest to support me and my journey towards a higher education. She’s been working but yet with the government shutdown we have been struggling even harder to make the payments needed to pay off my tuition. After my first year, my mother had to resort to using credit cards to complete the payments but they returned and now I’m at risk of not being able to return for my spring semester of sophomore year. My mom is breaking her back for me and I want to at least try helping out in some way. I’ve already started working but I don’t get scheduled enough to make a true difference.
