Help Us Hang On
Since mid-March we have not been able to offer bowling. Over the last eight months, we have reduced costs and pivoted to partnering with local chefs, bakers and artists in pop ups. Right now, we are partnered with Voodoo Love SF, a nouveaux creole kitchen and we are open for patio dining and take out.
The City of San Francisco had set our bowling reopening date to November 3rd but unfortunately that has been postponed indefinitely. We understand why we need to wait. And we are prepared to open and operate with the same commitment to safety.
We know that when we reopen bowling we will be able to accommodate bowlers at 25% capacity. We believe we can make it work and we’re dedicated to trying but our expenses are beginning to overtake our resources and we can’t bridge the gap alone.
If you’re reading this, it means you’ve been a part of creating this special place. You, our family, friends, neighbors and community have helped us create a vibrant, warm and welcoming place for good times and good food.
Because of your patronage over the last eight years MBC has been able to reinvest and support our community in a number of ways;
Funding and promoting Bay Area non-profits: We’ve donated over $107,000 from our food and drink sales to non-profits serving the Bay Area, especially the San Francisco Mission District. We’ve also sponsored and hosted events for community organizations to connect with donors, and donated hundreds of hours of bowling time to many nonprofit and local school fundraisers.
Engaging and supporting our local artisan community: We've been able to host and showcase musicians, visual artists, crafters, food vendors, and entrepreneurs over the years, supporting the creators, and making space for those that nourish the culture in our city.
Creating opportunity: We’ve had hundreds of people work here, many from traditionally marginalized groups. That includes people transitioning out of prison, out of rehab and out of housing insecurity. We’ve employed up to 48 individuals at a time, when fully open. Having a diverse and inclusive workforce has always been at the top of our priorities.
What will you do with the funds?
These funds will give us the opportunity to try to weather the storm, and operate for another 3 to 4 months. But any amount raised will help us prevent or lessen additional debt, as well as pay down the costs we have generated as a result of Covid. It will allow us to continue to offer as many pop ups and opportunities to feature other women-led and people of color focused businesses in our space.
We believe that our business is a positive resource, a supportive workplace, and a recreational asset to the city. Our neighbors and community have given us this opportunity and we wish to continue to serve it respectfully. Help us keep it going through Covid.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
