We regret to report that Twisted Okie, once a thriving "Mom and Pop," BBQ food trailer, was totally engulfed by fire Saturday while in the storage lot. Happily, we can report that no personal injuries occurred.
After several months of contemplation and discussion, Kevin Hopfer and fiancé Kristi Fuller, co-owners of Twisted Okie, took a huge leap of faith 2 years ago to open their own food concession business. Being able to set up a lease-to-own contract on a fully equipped trailer, we were on the road in no time and excited to introduce Jacksonville to Twisted Okie’s amazing BBQ!
As with all new businesses, we had a slow start; however, within six months of opening, Twisted Okie BBQ was well known among the people of Jacksonville. Twisted Okie’s smoked ribs, brisket, and BBQ stuffed potatoes coupled with fun and quality customer service allowed Kevin and Kristi (Twisted Okie) to begin pleasing the taste buds of many locals. Within our first year, Twisted Okie has also begun to make a name for itself not only in Jacksonville but also in multiple large venues in northern Fl., Tampa, Daytona, and Southern GA, just to mention a few.
As of Saturday, Twisted Okie's booking calendar was filled 6 months in advance and we were being asked to accept additional bookings.!!! This calendar was quickly immobilized due to the fire.
With the loss of their only source of income and their rental home lease coming to an end, Kevin and Kristi (Twisted Okie) are now asking for your help! They plan on re-opening Twisted Okie as soon as possible by asking for your help to reach their goal of $30k. In the meantime, we are in process of borrowing a trailer to allow us to focus on our larger venue bookings; however, that will not expedite the needs and quantity/quality of product we are used to providing. What will be needed is a complete new trailer to maintain our business commitments and regular cost of living. Unfortunately, much of the insurance coverage will go to the original owner of the trailer because it was a lease to own.
Could you please take a few moments to consider our request and donate toward the return of Twisted Okie’s so that Kevin, Kristi, and Twisted Okie can continue to keep on Smokin’ and putting BBQ smiles on many more faces.
