Keep Tony Clegg's 84 85 League Winners Medal in Bradford

THERE will be a poignant Bradford City lot at an auction in Glasgow later this month.
Keighley native Tony Clegg was part of the 1984/85 City side who superbly won the Third Division title.
But that season will always be tainted by the tragic Valley Parade Fire Disaster that occurred on the final day while the Bantams played Lincoln.
Fifty-six fans died as a result, and 40 years on, those supporters continue to be cherished and never forgotten, both in Bradford and beyond.
And centre back Clegg has decided to sell his title winner’s medal, admitting it carries an emotional weight given what happened on the dreadful May 11 afternoon.
He said: “This medal represents the pinnacle of my footballing career, but it’s impossible to separate it from the heartbreak we all experienced that day.
“I’ve kept it for four decades, and I now feel the time is right to pass it to someone who understands both the pride and the pain tied to that season.”
The medal is set to be sold by McTear’s Auctioneers on Thursday, June 19 in Glasgow and is expected to fetch between £700 to £1,000.
Brian Clements, McTear’s managing director, added: “This is not just a medal, it’s a deeply emotional artefact from a defining moment in English football history.
“We are honoured to handle its sale.”
Clegg made 48 league appearances for the Bantams between 1983 and 1987, including one memorable away game against Hull City in February 1985 on the way to that Third Division title.
With keeper Eric McManus suffering an early injury at Boothferry Park, Clegg was forced to go in goal, but he kept a superb clean sheet as the visitors won the game 2-0.
After leaving Valley Parade, Clegg went on to make 41 Football League appearances for York City, before plying his trade in non-league with Chorley.

A collective of posters at BantamTalk have decided to club together to try to purchase Tony Clegg's poignant Division 3 Winners medal and keep it in Bradford.

If you wish to donate, please feel free to do so.

If we are unsuccessful in winning the auction, it has been suggested the money be donated at a 50:50 split to the Bradford Burns Unit and the Darby-Rimmer Appeal.

---

PLEASE NOTE:
"Just reading the auction page and there is a buyers fee of 24% plus vat. So if the hammer price was £1000, the fee would be £240 plus £48 VAT so total price £1288."

Therefore the amount we are seeking to raise is £1288 for a £1000 bid - but whatever total amount we raise will be the total amount we can collectively bid.
