Hi, I'm Todd. I'm looking to get money to help fix my car. I recently graduated with my Master's, but while still in school driving home one day, I got an EPC Light warning and it started running rough. From what I read in the owner's manual, it could be one of several systems, including the engine, throttle, fuel, or stability, but it sounds like an expensive fix. The manual said not to drive it unless it's going to get fixed, so I didn't, and I've only driven it once when I moved residences a few miles away, and it's sat in the same place since. I have a job; it's a WFH job, but what I get just covers the ever-increasing cost of living, and that's about it, and my pay is on the low side for where I live. I'm supposed to get a raise later this year, and I'm slowly saving enough to get it fixed, but really would like to get it fixed sooner than later. I have a lease ending in July for the room I'm renting and would really like to move, but I need my car fixed so that I can see available places to live that will be nicer and cheaper, and also so I'm not abandoning it.
I need money to fix:
The EPC light and what caused it to come on,
The required preventive maintenance service as well as any other issue that has arisen from it sitting over a year,
Parts, since it's a German car, there might be added costs thanks to new tariffs,
Any leftover money will go to fixing the headliner, which was falling before, as well as a new paint job since it's peeling in a few places.
Once it's back on the road again, I can save money by not needing rideshares like I have been doing and I can do food and package deliveries for extra money. I'm also looking for a better-paying job and would need transportation to said job if it's in an office setting, as well as a part-time job on the weekends so that I can get some more money in. At some point, I will have enough to pay for the expenses, but it's going to be a long while before that is achieved. I'm not sure how much I need, so I'm trying to get enough so that I can pay for whatever comes my way.
If you're wondering why I don't get rid of it, several reasons:
It's a GTI; it's fun to drive.
I can fit in it. I'm tall, especially in the legs, so it's hard to get in many cars and I hit the ceiling with my head in many cars, not this. I don't want to drive a freaking big SUV just to be comfortable.
I don't want to start over with a car search; it sucks, and I was without a car for a long time before buying this. Also, for what I could possibly afford, there's no telling if another car won't have serious issues, either. While I've adjusted to walking, public transportation, and rideshare, I really want to get back on the road again.
Thank you for reading and giving.
