Hey everyone!

My name is Shy’anne Cook, and I am currently in my senior year at Howard University, where I am pursuing a degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Sports Administration.

Attending Howard University was a dream I never thought I would achieve. From a young age, I watched the discipline, determination, and commitment to education that my mother displayed, and she taught me to believe that I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. Now, as I approach the end of my Howard journey, I want nothing more than to turn everything I have learned and accomplished here into a career in the real world.

Since the spring of my freshman year, I have had the incredible opportunity to work with Howard University's football team as an Operations Intern. This experience has taught me what it truly means to be part of a Division I program. I have learned to understand structure and discipline to figuring out how much teamwork happens behind the scenes. The coaches and players have become an extension of my family and have provided me with an amazing support system throughout my college journey. They have taught me valuable life lessons, helped me grow professionally, and introduced me to incredible people throughout the sports industry.

Outside of athletics, I have also been able to explore my passion for media and broadcasting on campus. Through Howard's Spotlight organization, I have worked on a sports broadcasting show, and I have had the opportunity to work with WHUR, Howard University's radio station, where I gained experience doing play-by-play commentary.

Every experience I have had at Howard has brought me closer to the person and professional I am becoming. Howard has given me opportunities that have shaped my confidence, my voice, and my vision for my future. I know I am meant for more, and Howard has been an important part of helping me discover what that "more" looks like.

Unfortunately, financial struggles are now putting a dent in my ability to finish out. After making it this far, the thought of not being able to complete my degree because of financial circumstances is very difficult and is putting a toll on my mental health.

I am asking for your help so that I can stay at Howard, complete my senior year, and graduate with the degree I have worked so hard for. As they say, every dollar goes a long way. Most importantly, I want to show my mother that all of the determination, sacrifice, and values she has instilled in me have brought me to this moment and that I am going to see it through.
