As you can imagine, it’s been a very challenging time for business here at theOffice . Since March we’ve managed to get by thanks to a government micro-loan and the enduring goodwill of our loyal members. Seven months on, however, and with the holidays looming (the slowest time of year for us even before the pandemic), we now come to you - our friends and extended community - to humbly ask for any financial assistance you can provide.
We strongly believe that, as it becomes safer for folks to gather again, our communal workspace will become more vital and valuable than ever before. We ALL need a space to get away from the demands and distractions of home. theOffice is and always has been a peaceful respite, as well as a focused working environment to feed off the creative energy of those around you.
Since 2004, our space has been a stalwart of the writing community here on LA’s Westside. Countless movies, books, articles, poems and plays have been written here, including the screenplays for Finding Dory, Serenity, Jumper, NCIS, House of Lies and many more. We began before anyone even knew what “coworking” was and we’re proud of the loyal and diverse community we’ve cultivated over the years. It might seem easy hosting a workspace like this, but creating and maintaining the “vibe” of theOffice requires a special sort of alchemy that has taken years to refine. We offer a space that is relaxed but serious, where you can be as social or as anonymous as you want, with top-notch amenities but without any distracting frills - in short, the ideal work environment for the serious writer. Ask a friend who’s been here and they’ll tell you there’s no place quite like it.
During the past couple of months, a handful of our members have been using theOffice following strict safety protocols . We plan to continue this successful model and will be allowing in more and more folks as it becomes safe to do so. But first we have to survive the next few months.
So whether you’re a previous member, a member-in-waiting, a friend, or just looking to support a small business in need, please consider contributing what you can. And please share with others who might be able to help. We have downsized and stripped every bit of possible overhead. With over half of our membership now gone, these next few months will make or break the business.
