Hey everyone,
We’re The Yeast Brothers @theyeastbrothers — a small, independent pizza business born in Deptford, South East London.
Since 2021, we’ve been making pizzas with passion — using quality ingredients and blending traditional techniques with bold, creative ideas. We started out at The Deptford Bus in April 2021, a quirky double-decker cocktail bar where we served our pizzas from a tiny kitchen and gained our very first local fans.
In 2022, we moved into The Artworks Creekside, a creative hub filled with artists and independent businesses, where we set up a semi-open kitchen and connected even more with the community. That same year, we bought our own pizza van with a wood-fired oven, which let us hit the streets and join local markets, events, and festivals around the city.
We also began working with Kerb, a prominent name in London’s street food scene, giving us a chance to reach new audiences and share our pizza with thousands beyond Deptford.
Over time, we built a reputation for quality, flavour, and consistency — and in 2023, we proudly won Best Margherita in London at Slice-O-Mania, both by public vote and judges’ choice.
But this past year was the toughest part of our journey.
In 2023, we moved into a local pub with a lovely wood-fired oven and big ambitions. The response was phenomenal — regulars, good vibes, and a feeling that something truly special was growing. But in May 2024, the pub went into bankruptcy, and we were left unpaid for over £15,000 in sales we had already made — money that was never passed on to us.
Soon after, the pub changed owners. We stayed and continued operating, hoping to sign a new agreement, but after months of delays, we were asked to leave with just four days’ notice. The new owners then launched their own pizza menu — using the same names and style we created. That hit us hard emotionally and financially.
In August 2024, we returned to The Artworks Creekside in Deptford. It felt like coming home — but it wasn’t easy. Many people didn’t realise we had moved back, and our sales took a big hit. Some kept going to the old pub, thinking it was still us. Between rebuilding trust, adjusting our operations, and dealing with rising costs, we found ourselves back in survival mode.
By the end of 2024 and into early 2025, things felt uncertain. We were exhausted, trying to keep things afloat, and questioning whether we could carry on. But we didn’t give up.
In early 2025, we ran a small pop-up in Elephant & Castle, where we introduced Detroit-style pizza — a thicker, crispier, more playful style that most in London haven’t experienced yet. The response was fantastic. Now, we’re bringing that same energy back to Deptford.
We’re launching a new menu that combines our award-winning Neapolitan pizzas with our bold, cheesy Detroit pies — all made with love and care as always.
This campaign is about making that happen. Right now, we’re behind on rent and doing everything possible to stay afloat. If we can’t raise these funds, we’ll have to leave our current space in Deptford, which would mean shutting down everything we’ve built so far.
At the same time, we’re working hard to relaunch our new menu and inject fresh energy into the space. We’re committed to paying future rent, but to get through this tough patch without burning out, we could really use some support. That’s what this campaign is for — giving us a bit of breathing room and a chance to keep going. We’re not asking for charity — we’re asking for time.
Your support will help us clear our debts, stay open, and give this new chapter the opportunity it deserves. Whether it’s £5, £50, or just sharing this campaign — every bit helps.
We’ve come too far to let this slip away without trying everything. We believe in what we’ve built. We believe in Deptford. And with your support, we can turn things around and keep making great pizza, together.
Thank you for reading, for believing, and for being part of our story.
See you soon,
— The Yeast Brothers @theyeastbrothers
