Help Support the Ongoing Search for Amber Nitchman

We are raising funds to support the continued search for Amber Nitchman, a 34-year-old experienced sailor who went missing on May 15, 2025, after departing from Nanaimo, BC, on her sailboat the Gypsy Soul.

Amber was believed to be heading to Texada Island around 7:00 a.m. that Thursday. Her sailboat was later found adrift near Neck Point, with the sails up and fuel in the tank. There has been no confirmed sighting of Amber since she left, and it is still unclear what happened aboard the vessel.

The Coast Guard conducted a two-day air and sea search, but officially ended their efforts Friday afternoon. While some members of the community have stepped up to help, a recent call for volunteers did not generate enough turnout to organize a full land or water search.

We’re continuing to coordinate efforts as best we can, but we need help.

Funds raised will go toward:

• Towing the boat from the Port Authority dock $2,000-3,000

• Storing the boat in a secure location, $900 1st month, $500/month until the boat can be sold

• Retaining a lawyer to file with the Court of B.C. to declare Amber a Missing Person & assign a curator, $3,000-$5,000

• Support for hiring a Licensed Private Investigator, $5,000

This situation remains under active investigation, but we are not waiting on answers — we are doing everything we can to keep the search alive. Amber is deeply loved and missed, and we are not giving up on finding her.
