Keep the San Martin Family Together

My name is Daniel. I've been asked by the San Martin family to create this GoFundMe on behalf of my best friend, Chrisler, who is originally from Santiago, Chile. We met over 20 years ago on an LDS mission in Chile.

During our time serving together, we got along well. We found we had a lot in common--we both grew up watching Simpsons reruns and playing PlayStation. We were both know-it-alls in school. He was a smart, passionate missionary with a great sense of humor and a love of serving others. He's a guy with a big, friendly, funny personality and his energy is infectious. After our missions, we kept in touch.

Chrisler always loved the United States, and several years ago he got sponsored to come here to live. He believed the promise of America, the Land of Opportunity, a country full of different cultures and traditions and faiths but united by patriotism. Eager to take part in the American Dream, he's worked hard to build a life for himself. I've watched as his English has gotten better and better over the years. He's a loyal fan of Oakland Raiders and Texas Rangers for some reason. We've shared good times and bad ones together as friends.

A few years ago, he fell in love with a girl from Utah named Emily and got married. It was a privilege to attend as a best man, a privilege Chrisler returned to me when I got married a year later.

Chrisler and Emily now have two happy, healthy children: William (2) and Ryan (10 months). He's a devoted husband and father. His children play with mine. He works hard to provide for Emily and the kids. He faithfully attends church every Sunday. And since 2021, he's been following the process to obtain his permanent residency, following the legal route and trusting in the system.

Unfortunately, circumstances around immigration in this country have rapidly changed in the last year. This month, instead of a green card as expected, he received a Notice Of Intent of Denial. That means that, absent legal representation and significant luck, he may be forced to leave the country and restart the process all over to get his permanent residency. This would mean he could be cut off from his young family for what could be several years. None of us want to think about Emily being effectively made a single mother of two tiny children. None of us want to imagine what it will be like for the boys to spend the first precious years of their lives without their father. We are terrified about what this will mean for the San Martin family. They deserve to stay together. His kids deserve their father.

This GoFundMe is for the express purpose of helping the San Martin family navigate this unimaginable difficulty. The funds will be used for legal expenses and to help Emily and the kids if, God forbid, they suddenly lose their primary breadwinner. Please contribute and help this family! Help my friend stay here legally. He's a good man that deserves to live here in the States together with his family.
