Keep The Root Note Alive: Donate Today

Fifteen years ago, The Root Note was founded as a collaborative effort with Corrie Brekke at the helm. For the last seven years, Corrie has operated the Root Note as a sole proprietorship, weathering multiple waves of storms which many local businesses experienced. Corrie has now made the decision to leave the business and begin the next chapter of her life. This news has hit me and my family very hard, and we’re not ready to see this space go.

My wife and I met at The Root Note while I was working here in its early days (2010!) So much of our relationship has been centered around this cafe. In 2019 when our son was born, this is where our family started to come. The Root Note is part of our family’s history, just as it is for so many in the community.

The Root Note has always been a safe space for all ages, where everyone is always welcome. It’s a place to gather and meet friends both old and new for drinks, food, music, and community events. It’s more than just a coffee shop or a place to eat. It’s truly an important Third Place for so many.

My family and I don’t want to see the end of The Root Note. We are looking to purchase the business, but we are not in a place to do it on our own. We are asking for 30,000 in start-up capital.

Complicated cogs are turning in the background of this transition, and everything is still up in the air. We don’t know if we will be able to make this purchase work, but if we have any hope of keeping The Root Note in this community, we need your help.

If we are not able to make this work for any reason, no one will be out any money. We will dismantle this GoFundMe and a refund will be sent.

We don't want to be heavy-handed or overly dramatic. But if we can't make this crowdfunding work Corrie will announce her final plans for The Root Note at the end of August.
