Keep the Press Alive in a COVID World

It's tough times out here for democracy, the planet and the press in the winter and of our discontent, with the coronavirus still mutating and the economy not fully recovered . Many of us are hanging on for dear life as writers, editors, photographers and artists and we could really use your help.
As I wrote last winter, Trump pumped up the selfish gene up with steroids, aided by social media. We urged people to use the same tools to promote altruism instead and work together to defeat Trump to save democracy and the planet. It appears to have worked, if barely, and now the far right is up in arms and nearly toppled our democracy with a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Jan. 6.
Can Altruism Trump Selfishness to Save Democracy and Planet Earth ?

We hate to ask for money from readers, but we really need your help to get through this winter and spring to keep producing insightful journalism. We have no plans to put up a PayWall to charge readers, since we are committed to fighting against the Digital Divide and allow readers without means to read factual, accurate news for free. We don't waste time producing sensational clickbait filler. If we write about it, it's important.
We have a writer and an editor, a computer programer and an artist who could desperately use your help in this scary, trying time. We are only looking for help with basic expenses to keep the New American Journal going until we can emerge this summer with renewed hope and vigor.
Expenses
The annual server hosting fee was paid in December, $300.
Subtotal: $300.
We need ongoing support for programming costs for site updates and improvements, $300 a month through May.
Subtotal: $1500.
We are now paying $300 a month in rent on campsite fees.
Subtotal through May: $1200.
We had to replace the water pump on the media camper van.
Subtotal: $505
And install and program a new computer.
Subtotal: $450
We added new tires on the media camper van.
Subtotal: $545
Total ask: $4,500.
We sincerely appreciate all the help readers have provided for our efforts to tell the big stories and make sense of this mixed up world over the past 15 years. Here's to hoping to see American democracy emerge and flourish in the new Biden era, when we can get back to tackling our biggest problems after crushing the pandemic: Climate Change due to global warming from the burning of fossil fuels, a story I've covered for the past 30 years. There's also racial justice and equality issues to take on, including the ongoing threat of racial violence. We also need to get the economy moving again.
