Hi,
My name is Bruce Hargrave and, with help from Colin Lea, Chris Skipper and Matt Ashton, I installed and maintain the three peregrine cams at Lincoln Cathedral. The cathedral authorities have kindly given me permission to do this, but they do not fund the project. I do get help from Quickline Communications who, very generously, allow me to plug the cameras into their switch and connect to the internet. Thank you Quickline!
A few years back I ran a GoFundMe for two new cameras that Colin Lea and I had bought between us. Thank you for your donations if you gave then. Since then, Colin and I have bought a third camera, replaced cables and peripherals, and invested in other things to help with the installation whilst keeping pigeons out of the Bell Chamber. We haven't always been successful with the last bit!
It's camera number three (the new camera) that is showing live video from the scrape on the southside of the tower. So far, we have witnessed four eggs being laid in mid March and we are hoping to see chicks hatch in mid April. The camera is a 4K PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) model, but we have not moved it since laying started. We will see the camera's full capability once chicks hatch and start being fed. We may also see some action on the older cameras once the birds have fledged. But I'm getting ahead of myself now!
I pay £40 a month for a remote server and an IT expert helped to set this up so that footage from the camera(s) is livestreamed to YouTube on my 'Lincoln Peregrines' cha
nnel. If you would like to support the ongoing costs of this stream, you can do so via this fundraiser. All monies raised will go towards the ongoing streaming costs and replacing cameras as they (eventually) succumb to winter storms, summer rain and corrosive pigeon poo.
Thank you for your generosity!
Bruce
