Keep the only Black Brick & Mortar Bookstore Open

Hi, I’m VaLinda, the owner of Turning Page Bookshop in Goose Creek, South Carolina. As a Washington, DC Home girl, I was relocated here from my job to work in Charleston and when my kid graduated from Clemson (Go Tigers!!!), she left me with her dog, Tommy Pickles and an empty house.

My love for books started with my grandmother, who raised me and introduced me to the library, where I discovered my passion for reading.

Despite the barriers faced by African Americans in accessing libraries, my grandmother especially, my dream of opening a bookstore remained strong, and I worked part-time or volunteered at libraries and bookstores across the United States.

It has and I think it will always be my purpose in life to give books to whoever wants or needs them. Think of me as a Book Pusher on the corner giving out books.

Turning Page Bookshop offers a welcoming space for literary and community gatherings, with a carefully curate selection of books suitable for all ages. The shop is known for promoting local interest and diversity, and offers programming such as book clubs, author events, and children's Story time. The shop's environment is perfect for visitors to relax, chat with other book nerds, and enjoy the aroma of coffee and tea in the air.

I am seeking funds to pay back rent, purchase new carpet, and acquire 5 bookcases, 1,000 books to give out for free to children, and a bookmobile. The funds would help Turning Page Bookshop continue to serve the community and provide a literary haven for book lovers for years to come.

Turning Page Bookshop is a literary heaven for book lovers and community enthusiasts. The shop's conducive environment encourages curiosity and offers a welcoming space for literary and community gatherings. The aroma of coffee and tea fills the air, providing the perfect backdrop for visitors to sit, relax, peruse the carefully curate selection of general interest books, and chat with other book nerds.

The bookshop prides itself on promoting local interest and diversity, with a wide range of books and gift items suitable for all ages. Whether you're in the mood for a classic novel or a brand new release, Turning Page Bookshop has got you covered. Additionally, the shop offers programming that caters to the needs of its diverse clientele, including book clubs, author events, and even children's Story time.

In summary, Turning Page Bookshop is a haven for book lovers and community enthusiasts. With it’s carefully curate selection of books, gift items, and programming, it offers a welcoming space to connect with others and indulge in the simple pleasure of reading.
