Keep the Doors of Star 2B Performing Arts Open

It is no secret that we are living in trying times that have affected every household and company in insurmountable ways. Millions have lost jobs, homes and livelihoods, but we don’t want to harp on that. Instead, we want to continue to create a safe space for kids of all ages to safely grow up in the arts, as we have always strived to do. 

This week we celebrate attempting the impossible. A year ago this weekend we had our last live performances, something we have lost since March and this week we start our first live performances since the COVID-19 pandemic began. They will look different (everyone is masked and there are no live audiences), but we are giving these kids what they have been deprived of for far too long. We wouldn’t have been able to get this far without the diligence of our families, kids and creative teams, we are so grateful for the community at Star 2B. Sometimes, we get overwhelmed with emotion when we are shown the kindness of this community we have all created. There is truly nothing else like it. 

Unfortunately, this season we will not have any live audiences, posing, not only a tragedy for live theatre, but also a depletion of our finances. A live audience fills the theatre with energy, love and life, and we usually bring in about $15,000 of ticket sales per show weekend. This money goes towards the rent for the theatre, rights for the shows, the salaries for the directing teams, the props, the costumes, the sets, the sound, the lights, the rent for the studio, and all of the people involved with bringing the technical aspects to life. We know this number looks daunting, but one of the things we value most at Star 2B is honesty. We couldn’t have gotten as far as we have and created the beautiful community we have without transparency with our families and the public. We may not reach our goal, but we wouldn’t be Star 2B if we didn’t give it our best shot. We love you all, thank you for your time and we hope to see you soon.
