Hello friends, family, and community,
My name is Orlando Primo, founder of Majekfingers Drumming School and curator of the Feel the Rhythm of the Drums Festival. I’m reaching out because I believe deeply in the power of rhythm to preserve culture, build community, and inspire change—and I need your help to keep this vision growing strong.
In 2010, I witnessed a decline in engagement with the rich artistic traditions of Guyana, especially among young people. Determined to keep these traditions alive, I founded Majekfingers Drumming School to ensure that everyone—regardless of gender, race, or income—has the opportunity to experience the transformative power of rhythm.
For the past 15 years, Majekfingers has introduced countless people to the art of drumming, building bridges within local communities and inspiring a new generation of artists. Our work has expanded across borders, connecting communities in Guyana, the United States, Brazil, and beyond—all with a mission of making drumming accessible to those who need it most.
This year, we are thrilled to present two incredible festivals:
In Guyana: We are celebrating the 13th year of the Feel the Rhythm of the Drums Festival—a powerful tribute to the diverse cultural heritage of Guyana. This festival honors the rhythms and traditions of Chinese, Indian, Portuguese, African, and Amerindian communities, reflecting the rich cultural fabric that defines the region. For over a decade, this festival has showcased the beauty of cultural coexistence through music and dance.
In New Orleans: The third annual Feel the Rhythm of the Drums Festival will take place on October 4, 2025, at Music Box Village . This dynamic event shines a light on the deep cultural ties between Puerto Rico, Brazil, Congo, West Africa, and Guyana—all represented by incredibly talented musicians and dancers based here in New Orleans. Our festival invites audiences to not only watch but also participate, blending performance with education to foster cultural exchange and connection.
Last year’s New Orleans festival welcomed over 400 attendees, and we expect to more than double that number this year. We are proud to showcase the global rhythms that have shaped the city’s musical identity, while nurturing a spirit of learning and inclusion.
Why We Need Your Help:
Both festivals are grassroots efforts fueled by love, dedication, and a commitment to cultural preservation.
Your support will help us fund:
- Fair pay for all performers and teaching artists
- Costs for securing the venue
- Workshop materials and supplies
- Free and low-cost youth programming
- Airfare and lodging in Guayana
- Stage, sound, and technical support
Community outreach to ensure everyone feels invited and welcomed
Every contribution—big or small—makes a real impact. Together, we can ensure these rich drumming traditions continue to inspire and empower new generations.
Thank you for believing in the power of rhythm to bring us together. Please donate if you’re able, and help us spread the word by sharing this campaign with your network. We can’t wait to celebrate with you soon—in Guyana, New Orleans, or both!
With deep gratitude,
Orlando Primo
