Hello you beautiful person ❤️!
If you're reading this, you have likely been following my attempt to cycle around the world and raise money for men's mental health. Today, disaster struck on the Pamir Highway. I lost one of my bags containing the most important items I'm carrying... quite literally: my home. The bad road conditions either broke a strap holding the bag, or it just fell off because of the vibrations and I didn't notice. I don't know, it was just gone.
I lost my tent, my sleeping pad, pillow, toiletbag full of medication (including malaria and altitude sickness). My powerbanks, fast-charger, cables, and some other electronics and less essential items. I estimate the total to be somewhere between 1300,- and 1500,- euro's.
It's bad enough losing all this stuff, but on top of this I am RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of the Pamir Highway and have now lost the option to camp. In case you're not familiar with the Pamir Highway, it's one of the most desolate and brutal roads in the world, with close to no civilization. And certainly no outdoor camping gear shop. I'm working on a plan to get myself out of here unscathed, but once I do, I will need to replace my gear.
I find it very hard to ask for "personal" help here, but I got so much messages and offers through Instagram that I decided to just go for it. I really, really want to finish this trip: both for myself and for the charity (Movember) I'm raising for. But the budget is extremely tight. It has been tight from the start and I have been running into a ton of bad luck. Even though I have practically managed to avoid paying for places to sleep, we're not doing great financially.
Losing all this stuff, just after having to take an unplanned flight, and unexpectedly needing a new wheel, is ripping the budget a new a-hole.
If you want to help me out and keep this train going, you can donate some money here. I will use it to replace my gear, and whole-heartedly promise that I will donate any leftover money directly to Movember myself.
BIG DISCLAIMER: PLEASE! Only donate if you can easily miss it. It's not a matter of life and death, I will be fine anyhow.
Big big love to everyone reaching out on socials. I appreciate it more than you can imagine. Thank you for all the help, support, lovely messages, and laughs. I quite literally could not do this without you. It means a lot to me, knowing there is a ton of people supporting me from back home ❤️.
Choochoo, over & out
